The Inciting Incident
Because of my experience, I thought I'd be an excellent candidate for the AFI Directing Workshop for Women (DWW). Needless to say, I was very disappointed when I received my rejection letter. I'd felt pretty confident that I was in a good position to receive support from the DWW this year.
Didn't my work and experience help illustrate my talent and the strength of my character? Is there some sort of unspoken pedigree required for acceptance into the AFI DWW?
Well, I'm not one to give up on a good idea or a chance to grow, so I've decided to proceed as if I were selected. The only difference is that I won't have the support and benefits that come with being an AFI DWW participant.
